The Metrosexual with a difference
.jpg)
Prasanth Pillai - Metrosexual with a difference
Guys, for those who are unaware of the term metrosexual; its a person who is Young, Dashing, Confident, with a good job and high disposable income and who belives in living life to the fullest. There is none who symbolizes that word better than this young man hailing from the capital of Kerala.
Smart, Young, Handsome and Employed with Societe Generale, one of the major players in the European Financial League, this guy has been climbing up the corporate ladder like crazy. So it didn't quite surprise us when SG honored him with a 34% salary hike and a lakh in bonuses. Now, when metrosexual's celebrate, they celebrate in style. So I found myself with the rest of the 934 folks at the Take 5 restaurant to celebrate this monumental day in prasanths life.
Well celebrations started in style with hari, machan, prasanth and myself treating ourselves to the TAKE 5 speciality - The Long Island Iced tea. I restrained myself from over indulging into the treats present before me; the hours of hard work at the gym acting as a brain paralyzer
For a seasoned party-man like hari it was a natural progression into the other cocktails that were on offer; especially after being joined by his soulmate JD.
They do make a good pair. Their latest idea was to call up roshini(hari's would-be); jd posing as hari's maternal uncle and pull her legs. :) Pavam kutti.
The silent assassin machan was downing peg after peg. He had recently progressed into alcohol from beer and was consuming it with vigor. I knew that something bad was going to happen. Well didnt have to wait long. It culminated with machan slapping JD, and JD rushing off from the restuarant in a huff (Bar had closed around that time...allenkil avan evide pokan)
Well machan tried to make it up with JD which again resulted in machan slapping him 2 more times...JD, exasperated hit out at machan; this time machan left the scene in a hurry.(Kittendathu kitti)
Well reached home by around 12...but had to stay awake for 1 more hour as I was subject to some histrionic stuff from vedi and machan...
Well alls well that ends well...
Famous quotes of the day :-
Soban to prasanth - "da the bill is 17000"
Prasanth - "Ayye athraye aayullu...ninakku vallom venokkil iniyum vangichu kudi"
Anyway cheers to u bro(prasanth) on this tremendous achievement...God Bless...
* Those who didnt understand why prasanth is a metrosexual WITH A DIFFERENCE, I request to have some pegs with him. You will get to know the DIFF after around 4 rounds.. :)

A train journey, an wolf and cupid
Yes, you guessed right, its a Girl and a very sweet one at that. I met her while returning from my home town via train. Traveling 2ndAC in trains do give you an added advantage; no jostling, scampering and you have all the time in the world to take out your flirting tools :)
She boarded the train from Tiruvalla. I was reading a book on the "Relevance of Hinduism in the 20th century" and was literally bored to death. I kept my book aside and keenly observed the Mallu "Good Bye" process. A stern dad instructing his daughter to keep to her seat, to beware of wolves, monkeys, etc. and a mother with a forlorn expression on her tired face waving her daughter a tearful goodbye. Unfortunately, this particular dad caught a wolf staring at his princess and gave the wolf a stare; the wolf reclined gracefully into his cabin.
As soon as the train started chiming away, the Princess took out her flirting device and started dialing someone. Oh God here goes...Why can't at least one girl be naive?
Whattt ?...Did I just hear a female tone on the other side of the F device? Well well well, here I am with a chance unless of course fate plays a cruel role. Women can be Sapphic too :)
These random thoughts were playing on my mind, and I didn't notice the TTR standing beside me. He looked at me with a bemused expression, being quite used to wolves praying on single women and said
"Sir, a small request."
Ya what, you are gonna arrest me for staring!!
"Sir, you are occupying the lower berth here, and the Old Lady over there in the next compartment(where the princess was sitting) has an upper berth. Do you mind switching?
The sly bastard was quite sure that I would jump at the mere suggestion. To hell with him.
Well, I obliged...Not with any intention of flirting with the princess; out of compassion for the old lady :)
I barged into her coupe, sat opposite to her and started pondering through my "Relevance of Hinduism". She just kept looking out of the window.
I lost interest after some time; come on you can't wait forever for the dialogue process to begin; the girl should at least acknowledge your presence.
Well, wolves are renowned hunters, and this particular one was not willing to give up on his prey so easily.
Me - Which station is this?
She looked at me with a blank expression. I got confused. Did I lose my voice; didn't she hear what I said. "Come on lady don't play games with me..."
Seeing no response from her, I looked out of the window and said "Some station near to Cochin." Again a BLANK stare.
"Is this your seat," she said after about 5 minutes.
God - you are divine, thank you so much
Me - Nope, the TT asked me to shift here.
Me - You are traveling to Bangalore? (Yuck, what a stupid question)
Ya, she said
Me - U working?
Princess - Yep, Wipro Bangalore
The question was not reciprocated. Did I look like a loafer?
Princess - u working?
Me - Ya Ya. God gave me that much intelligence...
P - Which company?
ME - HCL technologies(Best Company in India, Madam)
Me - U a fresher?
P - Ya, joined 2 months back.
P - U?
Me - I am a LION..Sorry, a Project Lead(Equivalent to the President of the United States).
P - Oh...
P - U r from?
Me - Kollam?
P - Oh..that's bad
Me - Sorry, did I hear right...What is wrong in hailing from Kollam?
Well from there the conversation was pretty easy. She was quite scared of people from Kollam, having being scarred during a trip there. I tried to impart upon her the fact that it's quite a nice place with well-behaved people (Wolves transform to kittens in the home territory).
The train halted at Cochin; I was praying "God please don't let anyone board from this station, give me some time to woo this beautiful girl..."
"Thomas , I guess this is our seat said a lady as she crashed into our coupe. A 6 member(English speaking mallu family) boarded from there.
Cursing my fate, I leaned back and opened my "Relevance of Hinduism"
I noticed the princess getting irritated by the family's constant blabbering.
I kick started the conversation again...
I was quite fascinated with her. Good Looking and not afraid to voice her opinion...
We talked about a lot of things and her accent was quite cute.
We traveled in the same bus after alighting at Bangalore and en-course I took down her Mobile No and Email. Well, madam, we will keep in touch(Ya give me another 10 minutes and I will send my first message)..hi hi
I caught her online in the afternoon and we chatted for sometime...She messaged me later and I called her at around 9pm. We talked for some time and I kept the phone quickly lest she get a wrong impression
NexT Day
She called me some time in the afternoon and followed it up with some text messages. Well I called her back after returning from office and then Everything Changed..... :)
We were talking for around 2 hours and had breached the friendship divide. I was getting a awkward feeling and conveyed the same to her.
Well the princess was quite smart and told me
P - "Well I knew you would call me yesterday"..."Yuck was I so obvious? "
P - I knew you would call me today too....
Me - (Quite pissed...ego hurt :), "Then y the hell did u reciprocate"
P - Well...I ....athu pinne....
P - Let me ask u someting...U called me today, u will call me tomorrow, maybe for a week more...so what happens after that....
Me - Oh Oh Oh....
Well I pondered about that for a while... What was the chemistry between us?
Was it love? Na Na..I am past that age (Love at first sight)...
Was it a Crush...(Well maybeeeeee....)..Cute Girl, Cute Smile, Cute accent..Ya anyone can have a crush...So what?
Anyway she jolted me back to realty with that comment...
Thanks sweetheart for reminding me that we are 2 grown up sane adults :) ...
A new saga of friendship begins...Sometimes you have to re-prioritize your relationships. People who do that frequently are quite successful!!!
So my princess - wishing you a happy and eventful life....
As for me...Back to Square One.....

Kerala Piravi - An unforgettable day in my life
As Brian Adams sang "Those were the best days of my life".....
Gosh...What a day it was!! The fact that each and every incident that happened, remains deeply entrenched in my mind emphasizes the impact of that day in my life.
Its a day neither the KSU nor the SFI can forget. If I were a politician I would look back upon that incident and proclaim that I deeply regret that the incident happened, but as a student I definitely enjoyed that day...
Even though the KSU had won the CUBSA election and were on a high, the political equations in CUSAT was still in favor of the SFI. Well Kerala Piravi changed it all.
SFI at CUSAT were a restless lot at this time, since it was new for them to be a part of the opposition. There were a lot of fresher’s in the SFI at this team(1st years). A lot of them are good friends of mine now, since Bangalore and Ashok a.k.a Satan had made me part with all political ill-wills made in college.
Ok enough of introductions...let me come to the point!!!
It all started prior to Kerala Priravi day. The SFI freshers were trying hard to get under the skin of the Ksu guys and were using their local help(CITU guys) to terrorize them. There were also frequent incidents of manhandling of the fresher’s who were in KSU by the SFI guys and reciprocation by the KSU guys...
So the pot was boiling !!!!
KSU was conducting the Kerala Piravi celebrations at the SMS Auditorium, CUSAT and celebrations were on in true spirit, and I mean that by heart. There were a lot of drunk people in the Auditorium. Vinod was on the dais giving the welcome speech, when the first signs of trouble started. Some guys started questioning the death of Vishnu, a Btech Safety student during the college tour to Goa. Now Undappan who was the Safety leader was boiling with rage on hearing this snide remarks. Knowing his nature, I started to intervene and dress down things. Well things didn't happen as expected. There were a lot of guys there and I started using force which ended in a lot of shoving and pushing around. Now I was surrounded on all sides mainly with onlookers rather than those with any aggressive intent. Now Vinod saw this from the dais and jumped down from it and started towards the mob. Friendship is thicker than water :)
I don’t quite remember what happened after that. I started chasing a guy outside, there were some shoving and kicking at the bike parking shed etc etc. It all came to an halt when I heard a sharp cry from Vinod "Aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ammmeeeeeeee"
Somebody(we are still searching for that person) had pulled hard at his hand, and it had become disjoint. He was screaming in agony and we quickly forgot the fight and rushed him to the hospital......
A few hours later..Around 7pm.
Venue - An empty SMS auditorium stage :)
Vinod was virtually crying and all the others(Sabin, George Mohan, Jinson, Bhasi , Undappan, Sharath and me) were looking on helplessly. He was a natural athlete and the fact that this incident may make him prone towards repetitions later in life was triggering this emotional display from him. Well we were all sad ...and drunk :)
Lets go and beat up all of them, I said. No da, that would be foolish said Sabin and George. They would be expecting us to retaliate and would be well prepared :)
Well this pissed off Saji. He was an emotional person and would get upset over trivial things.
"Oruthanum varanda...Da pappa, nee varunnunda?" , the question was at me.
I took him aside, and told him in no uncertain terms that we are going to lie low today and tomorrow will be a black day for the SFI. Well all left from there in a drunken stupor.
The Next Day - Judgement Day
All proclamations made during drinks are usually forgotten the next day, but the first sight I saw when I woke up was Vinod writhing in pain, his hand bandaged. I felt anger building up within me and quietly went to Vinod and told him that his pain will ease in 2 hrs. Just wait and watch.
I summoned Sabin and we started to Salam Ikkas shop. The place was flooded with KSU guys who were venting their frustrations on George. Now he was our leader then and was trying to pacify students saying that we should act maturely, but unfortunately everyone wanted action.
"Adikkam - aarokke koode nikkum. The question was from Saji, who with his bloodshot eyes was quite something to reckon with.
George, Valsa...I think we have had enough, lets retaliate, I said. The decision was made easy by the presence of the huge no of ksu guys at Salam Ikkas.
We left for the campus after planning an Ambush. All of us arrived in different groups and at different times at the Siberia Campus. Classes were going on. All the freshers in the "SFI" were in the mechanical dept block. By around 11.45 Nitish P, had locked the gates to the mechanical block with all of us waiting for a chance for the classes to finish. Well unfortunately some guys did not have the patience to wait that long and barged in to the classrooms and started beating up SFI guys. At first I looked at the proceedings with amusement, but then it started getting brutal. Some SFI guys were thrown to the floor and a lot of people were stamping on their heads. I grimaced, having being subject to that treatment from a set of Gundas arranged by the SFI some years back. Vinod was watching all this, relaxing on a parked bike.
"Ithu mathiyoda - is this enough?", I called out. He nodded his head, probably sympathizing with the SFI...
The news had leaked by this time and SFI seniors started to appear, but there were left watching helplessly as they were far outnumbered by the KSU.
Ganesh, a good friend of mine and a prominent SFI leader was venting his anger on me...
"Adikkada enne adi", he started shouting at me. I gave him a helpless shrug and started the fire dousing process.
Our principal "Mrs Sobha Cyrus" had arrived at the scene and asked Suhin, my friend.
"What is happening here. I will ask the police to come!!!"
Suhin looked at me with a irritated expression and said "Dasa, etha ee alavalathi"
I rushed from the scene, lest he started using more expletives.
1 hr later.....
Venue - Salam Ikkas Shop
There were a lot of high fives around as we celebrated this victory.
Suddenly Anand, a fresher and a KSU activist came rushing into Salams shop. His face was flushed, at first I thought it was from the exertion, but when he started narrating the events our blood starting boiling again.
SFI had surrounded him while he was walking with his gf and beat up him black and blue.
Didnt they get enough? Saji said...Come lets go da..This time the agressor was George, his face contorted with fury. I asked Sabin to get into the bike with me. As I was starting the bike, I saw Saji taking a knife from Salams shop and putting it into his pocket...
Oh..Oh Oh ..what are we getting into here. Now this is dangerous territory. I quickly forgot about that incident as 9 bikes laden with 3 people each started from salams shop towards the Electronics Dept Block where the SFI guys were supposed to be.
The first scene I saw on reaching the EC building was 3 of my close friends leading the SFI brigade. Ashok, Jd and Ciju. Now guys from our group were looking upto us(me, valsan and Saji) to start the proceedings, but Sabin and I didn’t have the heart to do that. Saji who was not close to these guys didn’t have any such qualms and started kicking at one of the Sfi guys.
All hell broke loose after that.
Fahad, an SFI activist and a Giant was standing there, waiting to pick up a fight, but we conveniently ignored each other’s presence. Now he was my junior and we had some mutual respect for each other.(Size does matter :).
I suddenly saw Leo Paul attacking Goerge from behind and started pulling him back. He would have escaped unharmed, but unfortunately saji had also witnessed the same incident. Saji took out a metal rod from somewhere and started hitting him. It took a wild pull from me to wrench that away from him. I threw that into the grass. It all ended with a lot of teachers arriving on the scene.
Now KSU cant' claim victory in this venue, since the "kodukkal-vangal" was almost equal.
The final round of victory was with the principal as all of us who took part in this Kerala Piravi celebrations got a summons letter from the principal to attend the Cusat -Suspension celebration along with our parents. :)
The interesting part of college life is that all the grudges and ill-wills that you generate during this period will eventually fade-off and you would be left will a plethora of heart-mates for life...
I couldn't quite believe it when I saw Leo Paul coming to receive me at the Pune Railway station when I got a job there.
Cheers to KSU and SFI
Well CUSAT, you are a great leveler. :)
Well for those of you who read this and feel this is a bit biased, sorry guys, I am a Congressman :)
Jai CUSAT
Cheers,
Pappan

Sayanora Vishwa
Many people would find that hard to digest, but it's really true. I don't quite understand what has bought about this change in me, so I thought I will ponder over it and scribble something...
My guess is, it's to do with Vishwa being in our project. Now for those who are wondering who this new character is, he is my colleague.....
A kannadiga, spic and span and with all the irregularities that you can find in a person bought up in a liberal family.....He is witty and good to have around. You wouldn't want grim and serious people around u. He even has a Golden retriever by the name Danny. Who would name a dog Danny except for this ass....
At first sight I thought he was a show-off, circumstances changed that opinion. Office is hilarious now. We start pulling each others legs till we depart from office. The fact that Chithra, our manager sits just adjacent to him is of little consequence for him, that's the cheek of that guy.
He starts the day by saying "hey Genghis...short for Genghis Khan". I actually like that name, and may be that may be the reason Y I changed my opinion of him :)
Well, he is travelling to Uncle Sams place tomorrow. Well guess I will have to make Balaji a bit smarter..well for those u want to know balaji...that's a new story altogether :)

Star kids and the Fall of Indian Cinema
One reason why Bollywood can't think past love, sex and drugs is that the amount of emotions that these characters need to portray are very limited, which is turn is very convenient for the so called STAR kids.
Come on guys, everyone says that Abhishek Bachan is a talented actor. Well before I defame him let me put across some facts!(truth's) about Abhishek, lest I incur the wrath of his fans. AMITABH BACHAN is India's biggest star and an entry for his son into Bwood was a foregone conclusion. I am not mentioning his start-up movies lest you get the tendency to puke. I was watching a show in NDTV lately and Abhishek was telling the audience."See Star kids are not special. Its true that you get your first break in movies based on your Star status, but we are alone after that." May be true in some cases, but our dear Abhishek had 17 flops before he got his first hit. Of course, he is a much better actor now, but given that many opportunities even I can ACT :)
Now the host of the show was Farhan Akhtar and he promptly replied "Ya true, the only difference between the HARD Working Star KID and the aam aadmi is that the Star KIDS will come in their BMW's even for auditions.'
Well Malayalam movie industry is safe from this trend. Well at least till Prithviraj came along. Now I do like him. He is a good actor and have done some good roles. But his launch movies are un-watchable. I can sit through "Manjil Virinja Pookul" even now. That's the difference between people who come up in life by proving their capabilities and those for whom the whole life is a set of privileged opportunities.
Like Jagathy rightly said " To enact a humour scene 100 % convincingly an actor must have encountered a similar situation in his life or at least something related to that incident. To portray the struggle in a common mans life comically, you need to identify yourself with those characters. All the actors prevailing in this generation have come up that way. The newer generation, that too STAR kids(who are so used to all the worldly pleasures) will find it pretty difficult to identify and relate with good CHARACTER roles. That's why the newer generation is always prone to act in movies related to love, sex and drugs.
Awaiting a saviour. Let actors like Kay Menon come to the forefront in Bollywood, rather than the craps like shahid, ranbir, kibir, kunbur etc

Wayanad Diary
- Uncle a.k.a Jihad
- Mr I
- Mr I2
- Youth
- Soban
- Gibu Raj
- Machan
- Kapil Bhai
"Pappa" what is that you desire most asked Mr I...
Now one thing about Mr I is that he is damn serious while imparting these valuable infomations. So I replied in a grim tone "Well I would love to have a big mansion, girl friends, flashy cars etc'.
'Pappa, you should not crave for these meaningless things in life, because eventually this is all a maya. There is no mansion, gf's or flashy cars. Its all got to do with cosmic connections.
Well if you are reading this and wondering what this is all about, then we are on the same level :)
I forgot to mention another highlight of this trip. Traitor a.k.a jaydev had pulled out of the trip citing very valid reasons. It seems that IBM India doesn’t allow employees to take leave on Saturdays and Sundays.
Anyway that problem was handled very professionally by me. Nixon Fernandez had landed from Dubai and came over to hand me a package (No points for guessing what that is) and I convinced him to join us on this trip.
Youth and Uncle were closely following the conversation between me and Mr I. They were probably intrigued by the idea that all their personal concerns and worries would be washed away by following I's advise. As per his words "Ellam maya aanu suhurtukkale"
We had breakfast from Sultan Battery, with Youth organising everything pretty well. I had made an advance payment for our resort and was a bit apprehensive about how it will turn out to be.
The resort was 3kms from the highway and the road was pretty treacherous. By the time I had my first glimpse of the resort all my concerns were washed away. It was an ideal setting for a romantic getaway.
Well from this point Youth took over. The logic behind the decision to portray him as the "All-in-all" was pretty simple. In the event of an "Ladder" happening, we can project him to the hotel authorities. Seeing him their anger is bound to subside. I am not sure whether Youth knew of this plan of mine upfront :)
Well the agenda for today was to visit "Kuruva Island" and come back and DRINK.
Wayanad is really a very beautiful place. You can view nature at its best. This is my 6th trip to Wayanad and each visit brings new experiences to me(Not ladders).
Mr I was giving a sermon on trees and cosmic connection, but everyone was engrossed by the raw beauty of nature. We reached Kuruva Island around 1pm. Youth had arranged for a lunch nearby and it was pretty scrumptious
Drinking had started en-route to K Island and all of us were pretty high by the time we started the trek. The first casualty was Jihad. He fell down flat while crossing kuruva island and though that’s of very little consequence, the fact that his mobile phone worth 10k got drenched caused a bit of worry. I don’t know who gave him the idea of carrying his phone to the "Water-filled" Kuruva Island. Well he had company as Youth and Gibu Rajan got drenched soon and were looking at their mobiles as if they(mobiles) had come to the island on their own will. :)
So put together 50000 went down the drain, since Gibu has an aversion for cheap mobiles.
Uncle had refrained from drinking till that point. But loosing that mobile made him pretty sad. I really don’t know why(never seen a gal calling him in that mobile).
Well we returned home in high spirits and I mean that. Our vehicle was laden with bottles :)
Now there is a quite guy amongst us by the name of Kapil. I never know how he came into our cirlce, that too through the acquaintance of Jihad. Anyway some people's fate are decided earlier.
Being quite doesnt mean this guy is not observant or without opinions. As the spirit flowed people started to open up.
Jihad made a proclamation that he will honour us by breaking his so called resolve and have a drink with us.
Machan, Mr I and Mr I2 were trying to put a ladder from our cottage to the next(where a bunch of poor north Indian guys were staying).
I saw a light in the North Indian guy’s room around 8pm. I am cent percent sure that they were debating whether or not to come out of their room for dinner and face a group of drunk mallu MCP's or find a back door and start running to the nearest Bus Stand.
Well by around 9pm they came out. Guess hunger played a major part in that decision. The expression on their faces matched that of a young Indian Bride awaiting their first night with a older man.
"Enatha nokkunnne"..."*^*^T%^*&" etc etc was thrown at them. Luckily an interesting topic started by Nix diverted attention from them.
The topic was about "Aghora Swamis". Both Mr I and I2 had different views on the topic and by the time the discussion came to an end all of us were aware about the life style of aghoris, their rituals, their ideologies and even the brand of their inner wear.
A lot more happened after that. Alcohols limits my recollections but the dinner was eventful. I made a mistake of suggesting to Chettan that they may charge for his dinner since we had booked for 8 people. Eventually they didn’t bill us, but chettan made sure that they would do so in the future by almost emptying their vessels (It was a buffet, mind you)
Got up at 7am the next day, thanks to Mr Machan. He was pulling at our sheets as early as 6.45am. Well that resulted in us visiting the natural pool at the resort. It was pretty good as it eased my hangover. Uncle who had made a proclamation that he would be swimming 10 laps the next day was seen popping around in the pool like a fully-laden frog.
We had plans to go to "Sujipara" water falls. But heeding chettans advice we stayed back and thanks to that we were able to take some beautiful pics.
The fog "Koda manju" descended upon us like an angel trying to protect its loved one, only in this case it was a bunch of drunken MCP's.
After around 3 rounds of drinks somebody suggested that we should streak and this wat happened after that. I dont know why completely sane, mature and responsible people behave like irresponsible teenagers. I think it is in the genes. Especially MALAYALEE GENES.
This is out of context, but I want to share my thoughts here. I am pretty sure the racial slur going on in Australia was started by mallus.
"Ladder eduthu sayinpinde njenjathottu vechu kanum :) Orappa "
Well we bid goodbye to wayanad and chettan after lunch(From a toddy shop). I was thanking gods for making this a "ladderless" tour when Uncle suddenly put his hand out of the window and showed a "Fuck U" symbol to the car following us.
Oh God here it comes....I glanced around and my worst fears were confirmed. A car full of young men. They overtook us and reciprocated the symbol. I had almost resigned myself to the impending fight when somebody suggested that our "Alcohol reserve" is diminishing. Everyone sprang to attention. Fondness to alcohol overcame fondness for ladders and I heaved a sigh of relief.
Swami Vivekanada would have been proud of Mr I2, if he had been with us for the fag end of the tour. Such were the discourses from Nix, varying from politics to sex to lust. :)
